How Long Should A Blog Post Be?

When Seth Godin became an evangelist for blogging, he advocated short posts. He still writes that way. But his posts are full of wisdom and good graces.

Nevertheless, there are plenty of bloggers who write long posts and they provide great insight into their topics every day. That’s great. A blog post has to be as long as it needs to be to get the point across. But it need not be any longer.

So how long should it be?

Not long. But it’s entirely up to you. You’re writing it so write it your way.

But if you have a ghostwriter write your blog for you then find out what the minimum and maximum number of words are going to be in their blog posts. Here at Blog Content Provider, our posts are typically between 250-500 words each. We sometimes write longer posts, but we rarely write shorter. We believe in delivering value.

Blog SEO: As Simple As 1-2-3

I’m going to let the secret out of the bag. Blog SEO is as simple as 1-2-3:

  1. Make sure you write a great blog post that uses your most important keywords in just the right amounts
  2. Include a link or two with the right anchor text pointing to the right page on your website
  3. Optimize your blog post title with your keyword in the first three words of the title

That’s about it. And as an additional measure, you can tag your blog post with the right keyword tags and place it in the right category as well. There’s nothing wrong with writing a blog post that appeals to your readers either.

Tips On Writing Blog Posts

Recently, I was sitting around thinking about all the things that go into a good blog post. I decided to make a list. Here are a few things that you need to think about when you write a blog post:

  1. Choose one or two keywords and focus your blog post on those.
  2. Write a blog post that is high quality; length doesn’t matter. What does matter is that you write a blog post that people will enjoy reading.
  3. Take your primary keyword and write an attention-getting blog post title.
  4. Will you be using a graphic? Be sure to choose a graphic that enhances your blog post, doesn’t distract the reader from your message, and doesn’t dominate the blog post.
  5. Try to include a relevant link in your blog post to a landing page on your website and include anchor text.
  6. If you do write a long blog post, break it up into sections so that you have h2 or h3 tags that also utilize your keywords. I’d say you should include no more than 2 or 3 paragraphs before adding another subhead to the blog post.
  7. Will you be quoting other sources, other blogs? If so, be sure to give attribution either by mentioning the URL, linking to the source, naming the author or website of the source, or some combination of the above.
  8. It’s usually a good idea to include bullet points if you have a lot of points to make.
  9. Do you want to emphasize certain points in your blog post? If so, you might want to bold or italicize those points you want to make.

When you are writing a blog post, it is helpful to think of who you are writing to. What is your audience? Think of one person who can benefit from your blog post and write as if writing to person. For more information on blog writing, visit BCP at www.blogcontentprovider.com.

Are Your Blog Posts Long Enough?

Blogging isn’t rocket science. As the business becomes more competitive and more and more bloggers enter the “blogosphere,” the competition for your important keywords will get stiffer and stiffer. There are some things you can do to give you the competitive edge. The first among these is to be the first to start your blog.

Age factors are important and if you get a leg up on the competition you’ll be doing yourself well. Also, the more often you blog the better your advantage. The next thing is the length of posts – but only if the posts are optimized well. The more content you have on your website – any website – if the content is optimized properly, the better your chances of ranking for your important keywords. That doesn’t mean you have to write a book. It just means you need important and valuable, unique content. Are your blog posts long enough?

When I say “long enough,” I’m simply talking about more than just a couple of sentences. Every blog post doesn’t have to be 1,000 words. But neither should they be a mere 200 words. Optimally, all of your blog posts will be between 300 and 500 words, but longer posts to give you more potential. If you write really long posts, break them up into sections. Each section should have a subhead that includes your keyword. That will further optimize your blog post and give you another advantage. When it comes to competitive blogging, every advantage counts.
