Articles Or Blogs? Which Is Better?

Which is better, articles or blog? We get this question all the time. It’s like asking, “Which is better, turkey or dressing?” You might like turkey and hate dressing, someone else might like dressing and hate turkey, but you can’t ignore the fact that they go together at least one day out of the year.

I like to say that anyone with a business to promote online should use both articles and a blog. They accomplish different purposes and to market or promote your website with one and not the other like eating turkey without dressing, or to order a sandwich with no bread.

The Article-Blog One-Two Punch

Articles are great for long-term strategic positioning. Blogs are better for short-term “get-it-now” promotions. Any time you are in business you need to think both long term and short term. Consider:

Articles put your name in more than one place at the same time. One article you write today could get published next week, next year, and five years from now on different websites or ezines and still drive massive traffic to your website. Long term, it’s the best marketing tool on the planet.

A blog also has long term benefits, but you are just as likely to see immediate results. Post a blog post right now and two minutes from now it will be at the top of the listings on Technorati and Google Blog Search, two of the largest blog search engines on the Internet. Both of these sources can deliver thousands of visitors to your blog within minutes. Of course, every blog post is also crawled and indexed by the Web search engines as well, which means that a highly optimized blog post can be at the top of the blog search engines today and at the top of Google and Yahoo! next year. More traffic.

Throw in a little social marketing – you are Digging or Stumbling your own articles and blogs, aren’t you? – and you’ve got a powerful marketing strategy.
