I agree with Jonathan above in that it should take long to handle scrapers. The last thing I need would be someone to outrank me in search engines using my content.

Trackbacks are great ways of detecting scrapers, but also including other things in your feeds such as digital fingerprints can also enable you to find scrapers.

You may not be able to stop content scrapers, but you can hunt them down and take action.

Though I agree with your strategy for the most part, something about this sentence rubs me the wrong way:

"To me, it’s a waste of time to worry too much about content scrapers beyond that because I just end up eating away my time, which cuts down on my profits."

The reason is that, while spending too much time on content theft could cut into your profits, so can losing search engine ranking. Right now I have several clients who are seeking help because scrapers not only took their content, but used it to obtain a higher search engine ranking, Their lower ranking, in both cases, translates directly to lower profits.

Handling scraping should never take more than ten minutes. That's the time needed to spot the scraping, track down the host and send an appropriate notice to secure removal of the content.

Given what might be at stake, dealing with most cases of plagiarism is actually not a bad trade off. One just has to learn how to do it quickly and effectively.

If you need any help with that, I'll gladly do what I can.
